'Prado in Cruces' showcases Spain's masterpieces
If you canât go to Spain, Spain will come to you â" at least in the form of a collection of masterpieces from the countryâs most prestigious museum.
âThe Prado in Las Crucesâ outdoor exhibit in Downtown Las Cruces features 92 masterpieces from the Museo Nacional del Prado in Spain.
Listed as one of USA Todayâs âTop 25 Must-See Exhibits in 2017,â the collection of photographically reproduced pieces features the work of Diego VelÃ¡zquez, Francisco de Goya, Titian, Rubens, El Greco and others.
The Museo Nacional del Prado â" one of the worldâs most renowed fine art museums, boasts one of the finest collections of European art originating from the Spanish Royal collect ion.
The free exhibit now on display at Plaza Place next to the Plaza de Las Cruces will remain open to the public through Nov. 28.
As part of the exhibit, the Las Cruces Museum System is providing free weekly tours at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays starting at the exhibit on Plaza Place. The toursâ themes vary but in clude religion, works of the Spanish masters, portraiture, landscapes/still life, mythology and royalty.
The traveling exhibit is in the City of the Crosses under the collaboration of the American Friends of the Prado Museum and the New Mexico Multi-Cultural Foundation and through the efforts of the Las Cruces Museum System, Visit Las Cruces, the Economic Development Department and Heritage Hotels and Resorts Inc.
