Although glass originated in Syria and Egypt, glass has played a heavy role in the history of Spain and its ongoing industry. Today Spain is one of the top manufacturers of glass in the world just behind Germany and Italy. Spain first became known glass production in the 11th century, when clear glass mirror production began in Arab Islamic Spain.

During the 15th and 16th century, Spain became known for a specific style of glass they created which involved fantastic and unusual shapes made of green glass. Additionally, Barcelona became known for a kind of enamelled decoration that included a light-leaf-green colour and a recurring lily-of-the-valley motif.
